Experience has taught me that guardian angels are frequently communicating with their human friends. Right now (as you read this), you might be receiving a steady stream of positive data from them about your gifts or your strengths. If you are struggling over a major decision, your angels' input might consist of subtle coaching, which encourages you toward a new challenge with greater potential for growth and fulfillment.

Even if you would remain ignorant of the content of this ongoing angel input, your psyche still benefits. Input functions something like subliminal messaging. However, full awareness of the content can sometimes offer a greater measure of stress relief. For example, dialoguing with your angels can help you overcome the perception that your life is proceeding in a hit-or-miss fashion. It adds to the understanding of why life events are unfolding in a certain way. Angel dialogue can help you problem-solve, expand perceptions, clarify your potential, improve friendships, and discover your soul's wishes for you.

And there's no need to worry about angel directives limiting or smothering you. "Free will" is spiritual law. You can always say "no" to your angels. Even if you say "yes," you are entitled to take time to prepare yourself before acting on a suggestion from them.

From my own experience, the most authentic benefits of angel dialogue are:
* palpable awareness of angelic support that is with you continuously
* in-depth understanding of various life situations
* greater understanding concerning your personal gifts or potentials
* discovery of your life purpose(s)
* specific feedback about likely consequences of your choices
* inspiration to overcome fears
* comfort, acceptance and encouragement
* possible and probable forecasts

Why teach yourself to dialogue with your own angels? Why not? Where else can you cultivate the potential for receiving personalized information and support with the only cost being your time? Perhaps you are concerned that you will receive information that has little or no practical value.
Since 1987, I have been receiving messages from my guardian angels. A good deal of the input has been quite practical, having a useful impact on specific aspects of everyday living. (Incidentally, guardian angels are also good at providing quite a bit of abstract or otherworldly information!) Over the years, my angels have given me specific help with relationships. They helped me meet my husband, who is affectionate, supportive and totally devoted to me. They have given me insight into enigmatic behaviors of friends and employers. They have helped me unravel the meanings of certain dreams. Once, my angels even helped me locate my car, which I had misplaced among the vast, confusing landscape of shopping mall sprawl.

I am grateful that spiritual listening is a durable resource to which I can always return. As I listen to my angels, I remember I am essentially a spirit. As I listen to my angels, I am reminded of a wisdom that transcends the limitations of human reasoning. As I listen to my angels, I am reminded of my spiritual home.

What Actually Happens When You Listen To Angels?
As you reflect on the frequently mocked theatrics of psychics wrapped from head to toe in wild exotic fabrics, babbling and hovering over crystal balls, you might seriously question the wisdom of developing your own extra-sensory perceptions. Perhaps you have a preconceived notion of cryptic messages received as hands shuffle tarot cards, or as hands float along with a Ouiji planchette. Perhaps you have read about séances where objects purportedly levitate accompanied by knocking, rapping and table tipping. If you are uncomfortable with such stereotypical settings, dismiss them from your mind. Spiritual listening does not require any mystical objects or adornments. Everything needed is contained within you. For my students and I, it is a subtle, peaceful experience.

Essentially, spiritual listening looks like this: you close your eyes - set clear, confident intentions - still your body and mind – and listen for phrases or sentences, which arrive via thoughts that are separate from your own. In its basic form, it is quite simple. Some students access messages with little practice, yet many need to apply themselves over time before they hear anything. Even if a beginner has immediate success, reception improves with experience. A successful novice who practices regularly will eventually facilitate a finer quality of message.

What is it actually like to receive verbal communication from an angel? Despite the universality of the ability to listen spiritually, the particulars of reception can vary from person to person. You might hear words that enter your mind like a fleeting thought, as gentle and faint as a whisper. Initially, delivery could be so subtle that you might not be able to distinguish it from your own mind. Some people experience angel messages in a steady stream similar to prose, or similar to a lecture from a scholar. Some people get sentence fragments. A message might be heard in your mind while you are shown a visual image that appears on the screen of your mind. A verbal message might move in a line across the screen of your mind like words on a computer screen saver. Some receive a feeling similar to a flash of insight, a gut feeling or a hunch.

Occasionally, I have heard a person say he heard his name called when no one else was physically present. The name was heard in an auditory way - via physical ears, rather than in the mind. Each heard his name only one or two times over the course of many years. The source of each call could have been angel guides or a deceased relative/friend. Angels might use your name (not always) as a way to improve their connection with you. Deceased friends might use your name to let you know they are content and doing well. However, based on my extensive training experience, I suggest that the majority of verbal messages from angels will come as thoughts in your mind, not via your physical ears.

As I stated earlier, guardian angels are frequently communicating with their assigned humans. Just because you are unaware of the text of your angels' transmissions does not mean you have missed anything. Your psyche benefits in a way similar to listening to subliminal audiotapes. However, angels are not looking to turn you into a puppet. It is possible for them to influence you regarding your personal progress without controlling your actions. I know of a case where a woman was receiving suggestions from her angels for a very long time to leave her full-time job. The suggestions came to her conscious mind by remembering dreams rather than through spiritual listening. Previously, she believed she was stuck in the job indefinitely. However, she found a way to change jobs a couple of years after the dreams began. Think of subliminal messaging from angels as a respectful form of coaching.

Here is one last tidbit about what to expect - angels do not take over your body when they speak to you. They have less intrusive ways to facilitate the connection that allows their thoughts to be exchanged with yours. Your angelic guides do not want you to be overwhelmed or distressed by that exchange. They are eager for you to comfortably receive their input as they guide you through a maze of challenges on Earth.
