We are having wonderful spring weather here in Ireland and I am enjoying every minute of it. I am writing this in a house in the Irish countryside having a quiet time with my daughter Megan –she is still on school holidays – before I go back into a very exciting and busy time of travel.
The angels tell me that many of us are so busy that we forget to live life and enjoy the ordinary everyday pleasures. We try to cram so much into our busy lives that we actually forget what is important. Many of us place too much importance on money and material things. Having some money is of course important but the angels keep telling me to remind you that when you die you can bring no money or material things to Heaven with you. What you do bring with you are your memories and all the love you felt on this earth.
The angels are all the time working to help people to enjoy life, not to miss out on the ordinary everyday things that are very precious to us, that lift us up. This is particularly important at the moment when there is so much fear in the world around economic issues.
I met a lovely elderly woman recently when I was out shopping with my daughter Ruth. I was browsing through racks of clothes when from behind the rack I heard a voice saying “It’s you, isn't it? I know it is.” An elderly woman appeared from behind the rack and continued breathlessly “I saw you on the television. I can't believe I’m meeting you in person!” She was very excited. “You gave me back my life.” She said “Thanks to you I enjoy my life much more now. Watching you helped me to realize I wasn’t really living my life to the full. Now I try to enjoy my life much more. I don’t sit at home letting life pass me by. I am learning to enjoy all the small things of life that I never even noticed before. I go for a walk every day now, and I enjoy it even if it is raining or it’s cold. I now spend time sitting on the bench in the park watching everything around me, the birds, the flowers, the butterflies, the mothers with children in buggies. I even do a little gardening which I haven’t done in years.”
As the elderly lady continued to speak to me her guardian angel opened up behind her. He was very beautiful and tall with an appearance of great strength and was looking down at her with such love and care. I could see a flicker of gold and red in the guardian angel’s clothing. Her guardian angel was giving her strength to live life to the full. There were lots of unemployed angels around her too. Some were having fun dancing in and out among the rails. The angels were mimicking what she might have been like as a teenager. I know the angels were helping her to enjoy every aspect of her life now.
She continued telling me all the things that she was doing to enjoy life more. I had to do nothing other than stand there, listen and smile. “I have asked some of my neighbors in for a cup of coffee and now when I’m on a bus I choose a seat beside someone and talk to them.” She was really going out of her way to enjoy her life “Lorna, you don't need money to enjoy life and even with all my aches and pains I can do so much. I have only one regret in life; that is letting all those years go by without living life to the full.” As we said our goodbyes she told me that she wished she had heard the angel’s message about enjoying life twenty years earlier. I gave her a big hug. I watched with a smile as she left the shop surrounded by angels, stopping on her way to browse through the racks of clothes.
The greater part of our lives is made up of all the small things – the ordinary and the everyday. If we ignore these things or dismiss them as trivial and unimportant we will miss out on life. We will miss out on what is really important. Whether we realise it or not, the big things are made up of a lot of little things.
I know life is tough sometimes, and enjoying it can seem to be impossible in those moments – but even in the toughest of times there are always moments that we can savour and enjoy. Life itself is a precious gift from God. God wants you to live this gift fully and to enjoy it as much as possible. That’s one of the reasons God has given you a guardian angel and angels will always help us to enjoy life to the full if we ask them.
No matter what you are doing now, stop and look out the window, even it’s not as sunny as it is here, enjoy what is out there. Say a little prayer that you will enjoy the everyday ordinary things that come your way today and that you won’t pass them by and not notice them. You might say another little prayer – that everyone in the world will enjoy some moments today – no matter what is going on in their life.
