In my talks I quite often explain how we catch emotion from people. It’s facilitated by an interconnected network of brain cells known as the mirror neuron system. If you’re with someone who is happy, your brain actually mirrors the activity of their smile muscles signaling your muscles to do the same.
Given that stress is linked with illness, it might be no real surprise to learn that a positive outlook can have health-giving effects. At the very least, positivity spares us some stress but it seems to also have immune-boosting effects, as you can see below.
Hello friends. One of the astrological events that already stands out for 2013 is the Grand Water Trine that will take place next July. I have enclosed a copy of the chart (courtesy of the Grandtrines blog,) for those that would like to examine it via the link below.
I just had to write this blog because a little 8-week old Labrador puppy joined our family last week. We’ve called him ‘Oscar’. He’s a bundle of cuteness, extremely playful, and also VERY fond of chewing his way through just about anything left lying on the floor. We all know how much love dogs have to share, but I also wanted to share with you why they are good for your health, and especially for your heart.
I don’t know about you, but I woke up on Monday morning of this week feeling quite sad. The Olympics finished on Sunday and I think it just affected me on a very deep level. Among other things, it was really refreshing for the TV to be filled with positivity, dedication, passion, and achievement instead of being saturated with conflict, negativity or instant celebrity.
The brain’s circuits are not fixed. Our experiences constantly change the wiring in our brains, a phenomenon known as neuroplasticity. The more we do something, the more the brain physically changes as it wires it in. A study of London taxi drivers showed neuroplasticity. It found that the hippocampus of the brain, which is involved in learning new routes as well as with spatial awareness, grew larger the more time they spent driving their taxis.
A wonderful way to support and encourage greater balance and peace in your life is to be more aware of the subtle, yet profound ways that food is affecting us and the world every day, on a physical, mental and emotional level.
I have been a vegetarian for many years for all kinds of reasons: health, morality, energy, ecology, and on and on. I don’t think everyone should be a vegetarian, and I have never proselytized. I think everyone should follow their own body’s guidance toward food that works for them. I just know what works for me.
For some reason I’ve been having a lot of conversations about empathy recently. Empathy has been defined in the scientific journals as ‘I feel withyou‘, as distinct from compassion, which has been defined as ‘I feel for you’. With empathy, we share another’s pain and we are very aware of the effects of our actions on them. With compassion, our focus moves a little in the direction of wishing them freedom from their pain.
The cosmic moment this year is the most important moment that any one of us will ever experience. If we are ready there are incredible opportunities for higher ascension and true happiness as well as the return of our gifts. We must get our twelve chakras clear and fully open in order to access the full potential of this moment.
You are approaching the entry to the pivotal alignments of 2012. The Venus Transit in June is the key to balancing the inner energies of humanity and will initiate vast transformation in planetary life. I am well aware of the difficulty you are experiencing lately as the energies intensify and the feeling of wanting to express yourself authentically is met by the sluggishness of an evolving physical body. As you transition to living foods in larger proportion in your diet, you will discover a balance that suits you and your aliveness now, and be able to energize yourself appropriately in harmony with the incoming energies.
Today’s current economic struggles causes heighten stress levels, which lead to other illnesses, some resulting in death or suicide. It's quite understandable why and how people act when they loose their home, job and livelihood. They identify with the possession bringing meaning and definition to their life. We also can't rule out habitual addictions. These are the worst ones. They often go unnoticed by the one with the addiction, but see and known by close family members and friends.
I love doing affirmations and have used them for many years. My recent Hay House Radio show (Monday 30th April 2012) was on ‘The Power of Affirmations’, where I went into the science of how they work and their impact upon the brain and body. Near the end of the show, I read out my Top-Ten list of affirmations and several people have since got in touch to ask if I could put them down on paper.
