My children cannot perform only one way in terms of Life on Earth. This is the thing about Life in the World – it is a mix. You yourself are a mix. All the opposites whirl around in the world. While you are on Earth, you yourself may include all the opposites.
When I was growing up I heard ‘Don’t be selfish’ a lot from my mother. As the oldest child in the family, I always had to share everything with my siblings and cousins. And when I didn’t feel like sharing I was called ‘selfish’.
It helps the Universe when you do not take happenings in life as an estimation of your worth. Because you do not win a prize you so desired does not mean you are less. Results in life are not to be viewed as your report card.
Ever since I was twelve years old I've called myself a writer. The title felt legit. I didn't need to publish a book or have a byline in a magazine. As far as I was concerned, the fact that I kept a journal and wrote in it nearly every day gave me license to call myself a writer.

I was raised in a military family, and that patriarchal system had no room for honoring of the feminine. They had many strict rules that I rebelled against when I was there. Ironically, when I was no longer there, I found that I had adopted those same rules as my inner voice!
During stressful times, one of the things that sees us through is self-confidence – confidence in our ability to weather a storm, to take the necessary actions to honor our self-care, and to face our fear even when everything inside us wants to run and hide.
While shopping for clothes on a quiet afternoon, I encountered a frustrated worker who decided to take her irritation out on me. As I left a dressing room with clothes on my arm, the young woman yelled - actually yelled - at me for not putting them on a nearby return rack.
The honoring of our interior lives is a holy commitment. It starts by first remembering that you have one – a complex, rich world inside your own heart and mind that needs daily tending and nurturing. Then, as you open to this inner life, it requires a fierce choice to make this honoring a priority in your daily life.
