Living a Mindful Life

It sometimes seems that being on a spiritual path involves constant watchfulness. We learn that we must pay attention to our thoughts, to our words and to our actions so that we create the reality that we want. We must be willing to forgive ourselves and others. We must be non-judgment and non-critical. And finally, we are to learn to integrate the spiritual and material worlds. That seems like so much work and yet it all requires only one thing, that we be a state of mindfulness, where we are the observer, watching what is happening in the present moment. Everything else unfolds from that point.

We are spiritual beings by nature and our challenge is to remember that. We are not creating something new here, we are re-connecting with a very ancient and powerful part of ourselves, allowing it to come to the forefront of our consciousness, instead of it lurking somewhere in the background. Living a mindful life begins at that point, remembering our spiritual self and allowing it to be part of our life. From that point, learning to be mindful becomes a series of steps that we take as we become comfortable with this different way of being. For many lifetimes we have been guided by our mind and emotions; allowing our spiritual nature to become our guiding force is not familiar or even comfortable at times.

When we live mindfully we observe our reality unfolding and ask different questions. Instead of ‘why is this happening to me’ we ask ‘what message do I need to hear’. Instead of ‘why is this person treating me this way’ we ask ‘what am I doing to attract this to myself’. Instead of why is my life such a mess’ we ask ‘where am I not being powerful’.

The more we increase our ability to live a mindful life, the more we become aware of what we do and do not want in our reality. We can easily set boundaries for ourselves, which is not about keeping others out. Rather, it is setting the energy for what we wish to attract. We attract people who resonate with us or who resonate with the lessons we need to learn. If we need to learn lessons in power, we will attract people who will confirm our power or make us feel powerless. If we need to learn about self-love, we will attract people who mirror our degree of self-love or make us feel unlovable. How mindful we are determines both the type of lesson and how we respond to it.

When we learn to accept others completely and without judgment view every interaction as a student/teacher opportunity, we are on the mindful path. And we can learn to take on the role of investigator and observer. What are we learning and what are we teaching? Can we uncover the value and blessings that are always present in everything that we experience? Do we need to heal everyone or are we confident enough in our own abilities that we see the person who seems to be the most powerless as standing fully in their power, or as much of it as they allow themselves to have? Can we let go of what does not serve us or do we engage simply to prove to ourselves that we can?

Mindful living reminds us that we choose joy or sorrow, pleasure or pain, abundance of what our heart desires or our darkest fears according to what we believe about ourselves and what we deserve. Mindful living allows us to confront our wounds instead of being confronted by them. All we have to do is hold the energy of what we want and create the space for it. The rest unfolds according to our intention and desires.

There are different degrees or levels of mindfulness, just as there are different degrees or levels of knowledge and understanding. Each of us is at the level that is perfect for us at each moment. And this can change in the next moment. Our concern is with our level of mindfulness in the present moment. Each new understanding or realization simply adds to our ability to expand our mindfulness. When each of us can be mindful about our own life we eliminate the need for revenge or validation. No one can hurt, belittle, abuse or frighten us. Our fears become an opportunity for growth and healing so that we can release them. Now imagine a world where each person can do this and we can fulfill the promise of the light that transforms the darkness, the peace that passes understanding and the integration of heaven and earth.

Well, it happens a lot with these messages, that the timing seems to be purrrrrfect. It makes you think if we manifest these channelings all together. It really makes you think that those 'angels' are not entities outside us, that they are different aspects of ourselves, just like Karen Bishop once said. We create every word written here. And then we think it is somehow miraculous - when it actually isn't. Just the law of attraction working like it has always done.
