Thank You Thursday: Memories

Be thankful this day for our memories.

Memories are our personal database servicing as checkpoints in our lives. They are often triggered by conversations or pictures, anything tangible. Memories play a very important role in our daily activity. They guide in the decision making process, guide our emotions, and guide us in daily functions and motor skills. When we learn a new skill, word, function, etc., it's stored in our memory to refer back to when we need that memory, emotion, function, or associated with it. The learning process is on-going and never stops, it is the person that stops and the mind or brain does not receive the desired exercise. As children, we have an innate curiosity. The level of curiosity wanes as we get older, because we feel there is nothing more to learn, however the memories are still there from the lesson and takes a little more work to retrieve them. As we progress in life, at times we block out certain memories or wonder why we have a certain affinity or fear of an action, object, word, location, etc. When we are faced with the fear or affinity, the associated memory comes back to us vividly and emotionally.

Memories transcend life times. If you believe in reincarnation or past lives, our previous lives holds on to memories that were very joyful or traumatic. This serves as a message, work that was incomplete or something different for you. Times we have the affinity or fear from a past life. We are drawn to people, places and objects from our past life. The memories from those times maybe vague, yet still hold great meaning for us. At times have you ever wondered why you drawn to a city, person or object or have an inexplicable fear or phobia? It could have been something relating to your past life.

A memory times may not be a memory, but a message, a sign or a warning. How do you tell the difference? You will know; especially if you feel deja vu. A memory is a mental database of life lessons, guiding us in our daily lives, however we should not let them dictate our lives, but embrace them for what they are. Each memory serves its purpose.

Be thankful this day and everyday for the memories we have to serve us on the daily basis.

Be thankful this day and everyday for the curiosity to learn new things.

Be thankful this day and everyday for the transcending of time to connect us with others who brought meaning in our lives.
