In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer. Albert Camus

I am a little later than usual with this new Moon posting. Please do remember that the effects of the new Moon last into the future - it's not all over with a bang the minute the new Moon (or the full Moon for that matter) occurs.

I also want to share with you that, yesterday, I attended a ceremony in Sydney where my daughter, Jess, was a finalist for a major Australian Human Rights Award - that is such a Sagittarian ideal. It was a wonderful occasion to celebrate human rights. So much more needs to be done on this front, but, it is good to gather together to enjoy and celebrate the efforts that ARE being made by those who are committed to it.

The Sagittarius new Moon occurs on December 11. It is an interesting lunation, and full of all kinds of messages.

The new Moon is square Jupiter. This square can bring wonderful opportunities of travel, expansion, hope, trust, rewards, energy, all kinds of things. Especially BIG things. We may have big plans, big ideas, big hopes. This is a lovely square in amongst it all... what is it that you are wanting to give birth to? Jupiter is very likely to be there helping the birthing process...

We also have Mars opposing Uranus and squaring Pluto. Mars could bring us some new insights, primary amongst them may be revelations about anger, obsession, controlling issues in relationships, the need to let go of old hurts, perhaps to forgive, perhaps to forget. Mars and Uranus are in a tight opposition, with Mars on the Old Sea Captain Rocking On The Porch Of His Cottage and Uranus on The Two Prim Spinters degree. We might be finding some upsets around relationships surfacing (especially from the past - or, issues that might now belong in the past, even if recent). We might have a lot to say, or, very little. Very soon after the new Moon, Mars moves onto Libra 18: Two Men Placed Under Arrest Are Brought Before The Tribunal Of Society To Give An Accounting For Their Actions and then it moves onto Libra 19: A Gang Or Robbers In Hiding. Mars looks set to open up all kinds of cans of worms. Treading carefully might be the order of the day.

Venus, however, is on one of the most psychic, clairvoyant and intuitive degrees - The Silvery Moon Shining Across A Beautiful Gem Of A Lake AND Venus is nicely trine Neptune. It seems that, as often is the truth (but not always!), that Venus is the way out of any upsets, anger, disappointments, etc. The trine to Neptune seems to be saying that it's time to look into situations, seeing past the projections and assumptions we might be heaping on to people, situations and/or events, and to make announcements, even to ourselves. Neptune could be asking for us to voice what we want, what we perhaps demand, to speak up and not be silent about things that matter. Of course, this could mean speaking our mind to ourselves more than to others. That often works a treat in moving past issues that could keep us stuck.

Venus seems to be saying to employ love, art, beauty, etc and to believe and trust in these values. Mars in Libra (noticing that Libra is ruled by Venus) could be floundering around, wondering what to do. After all, Mars (as an archetype) takes his cues, instructions, orders (whatever) from Venus. Mars, otherwise, would just be wandering around with a spear (or a nuclear missile) in his hand, wondering what to do with it. (Please notice that we ALL, male and female alike, have both a Venus and Mars in our charts :) ).

What is it that you're wanting to bring into this new time? The new Moon each month marks a time of new beginnings and realisations. It's like a birth after a time of gestation or being 'in the womb'. Here, the light begins to return and we can see new beginnings and possibilities. A new Moon means that the Sun and the Moon are both together - bringing a synergy of their energies together. The new Moon is a perfect time to set your intentions for the future. This period is wonderful for planting seeds of whatever kind. What do you want to manifest in your future? Whether you write it down, sing about it or just hold the thought forms in your mind, doing this at the new Moon can realise some fabulous results around the things that you want to draw into your life

symbols_sun_moon.pngThe New Moon is on Sagittarius 20: IN WINTER PEOPLE CUTTING ICE FROM A FROZEN POND, FOR SUMMER USE

Among other things, I see this Symbol as the provision of food. In fact, the 20th degrees of mutables are about food (and resources). Are we putting things aside for this holiday season? Are we concerned about paying our bills? Having enough for the more 'difficult times'? Are we putting things in the cupboard for use at a later date? This Symbol can be about refrigeration, storage, air conditioning and even heating in the winter. It's about resources and how we use them and how we can plan for the use of them. This Symbol speaks of the need for planning ahead. The people “In Winter” are “Cutting Ice From a Frozen Pond” – they know that they’ll need the ice for summer – they are thinking ahead so they can have what they need at the right time. Like these people, you'll have what you need if you allow for shifts in time and seasonal variations. Also, you may feel that you have lost touch with your emotions by creating a barrier, coming up with “Frozen” responses. This barrier can be overcome without great difficulty, just a little planning and action, and probably, a desire to work with others to build for your future.

Keywords: Overcoming difficulties ahead of time through creative solutions to problems. Strategies for survival in harder times. Stocking up and storing supplies. Savings and funds. Pension plans. Retirement plans. Work and renovation. Planning for changes in external or internal realities. Seeing shortages ahead of time. Snow. Ice. Freezing conditions. Divorce settlements.

The Caution: Stoic acceptance of difficulties. Not seeing ahead of the times. Failing to plan for the future and just hoping that it will work out. Sitting on your hands instead of working for future possibilities. People storing up hurts or insults for later. Extortion.

symbols_mercury.jpgMercury is on Capricorn 3: THE HUMAN SOUL, IN ITS EAGERNESS FOR NEW EXPERIENCES, SEEKS EMBODIMENT

I always notice when this Sabian Symbol is around. It is a fabulous promise of the human spirit being 'embodied'. It is amazing (as always) that the Sabian Symbols were birthed in a double-blind 'experiment' and yet, every year at Christmas time, this 'embodiment' degree is the degree of the Sun. This degree in it's literal sense, shows the embodiment of Christ, as, truly, that is what is celebrated at Christmas, however, there are many other ways to see this being made literal in our lives and the image is not confined to Christianity.

This Symbol shows being open and receptive to the messages of the world around you, as there is an expansion into a new understanding and a new way of life. Writing is an excellent way for the “Soul” to “Seek Embodiment”. Also there can be issues to do with one’s body. There can be many times of quiet; of inner contemplation and outer observance. Regardless of your more immediate, physical circumstances, there is an evolution of understanding going on. Unbounded enthusiasm is likely to be around. It may be useful to keep a diary or to write things down. Extraordinary events can happen with this degree.

Keywords: Inner motivation leading to expansion. Jesus and his disciples. Being "born" quickly. Manifesting one's desires without concern for consequences. Being "born again". Feeling like a changed person. The need to drop into the body. Religious and spiritual rebirth. Reincarnation. The urge to create. Writers and writing.

The Caution: Denying the growth that's beckoning in favor of social responsibility. Not leaving when perhaps one should. Having to seek permission to come through any "new gateway". A loss of faith. Being obsessed about an ideal or idea. Feeling cast adrift from one's reality.

Mercury symbolizes: Mind, thought, communication, memory, expression, intelligence. News, exchanges, chatting, conversations, short journeys, connections with others, telephones, emails, siblings, neighbors, the reasoning mind. Day-to-day activities. Cars, keys, small animals.

symbols_venus.jpg Venus is on Scorpio 8: THE SILVERY MOON SHINING ACROSS A BEAUTIFUL GEM OF A LAKE

This Symbol implies seeing things reflected in the world around. It can also show someone who loses the plot through not being able to differentiate reality from fiction, intuition from dreaming or what’s theirs from someone else’s emotions, thoughts or reality. Certainly, this speaks of depth in intellect, intuition and emotions. Whether there are hidden depths of not, there may be a strong sense of things being ‘reflected’, as the “Moon” reflects on the “Lake” much like a mirror. What needs reflection? Or less projection? Are things evaluated merely on a superficial level? Are you able to see things for how they really are? Look for signs you need to observe, and watch how life can be reflected around you.

Keywords: Reflections. Mirrors. Things mystical and alluring. The 'Narcissus' story. Picturesque scenes. Picture postcard images. Peace and beauty. Halloween and magic. Escapism. Placid emotions. Peace and quiet. Contemplation and meditation. Having a reflective nature. Photographs. Psychic abilities. Hypnotic charm or manipulation. Beaming faces. Projections based on appearances. Beautiful landscapes. Stillness. Stairways to heaven.

The Caution: Acting out of moodiness. Losing the plot. Projecting one's self onto others. Narcissism. Looking at one's self and others as if in a mirror. Not wanting to see the whole picture. Being superficial. A lack of depth. Seeing everything as a reflection of one's self. Relationships that have ideals that aren't based in reality. Lack of everything. Codependent relationships. Superficial responses.

Venus symbolizes: Relatedness, cooperation, what attracts you. The experience of sweetness, beauty or delight. Social interactions, love, friends, how you reach out to people. Feminine persona, relationship with mother and females. Money, possessions, sense of values.

symbols_mars.jpgMars is on Libra 17: A RETIRED SEA CAPTAIN WATCHES SHIPS ENTERING AND LEAVING THE HARBOR

This Symbol speaks of the necessity in life of finding time for quiet recollection. You may feel that the stormy, unpredictable, emotional life is something you can, or need to, leave behind; to opt out. But like the sea captain, there will always be the frustration in the desire to return and get back amongst it. An objective and calm understanding of life's experiences is available, but know when to rest and when to be active and work as merely looking out at the world from a confined perspective and feeling like you have no choice but to sit and watch is unlikely to bring the world to you.

Keywords: Memories and peaceful contemplation. Disconnection from the past. Concentrating on more immediate circumstances. Fatigue and the need for rest. Being a spectator rather than a participant. Being part of an audience. Voyeurism. Turning to domestic pursuits. Writing one's memoirs. Nostalgia. Safe ports or harbors. Retiring from public life.

The Caution: A cop-out, escaping from reality. Relying on past experiences. A need to defend one's shoreline. Losing faith in life. Staring at lost opportunities and times gone by. Not wanting to contributing any more. Losing interest in the struggle. Disillusionment. Frustration. Boredom.

Mars symbolizes: : Drive, determination or agenda, how you get to your goals. How you express and handle anger, ambition, assertion of self and ability to step forward. The male principle, sexuality, the ability to step up to the plate when one needs to. Fight or flight.

symbols_jupiter.jpg Jupiter is on Virgo 23: A LION-TAMER RUSHES FEARLESSLY INTO THE CIRCUS ARENA

This Symbol implies having the talent, skills, training and discipline to be able to tame wild energies like those of a “Lion”. It is not that you need to extinguish powerful emotions and energies, but by skillfully manipulating what’s going on, these very wild emotions and energies will perform in a way that makes you the victor. Self-discipline and mastery are needed, along with being well rehearsed for what you are doing. There's a need to put fear behind you and to go for it – perhaps rushing in where angels fear to tread. The question is: How trained are you and prepared for the consequences?

Keywords: Having faith and courage in your abilities. Sublimating animal instincts. Control. Fearlessness. Professionalism. Extremism. Adrenaline rushes. Dangerous spectacles. Training and conditioned responses. Restrained passion. Coordination and skill. Superheroes. Holding the whip.

The Caution: Needing to be in control. Believing that things are dependent on your direction. Showing off and boasting. Plunging into situations, physically or emotionally, that are inherently dangerous without regard for the consequences. Overplaying one's abilities. Dominant attitudes. Taking on anything and anyone.

Jupiter symbolizes: The big picture, expansion, exploration, aspirations, religious and philosophical ideals, issues to do with traveling, foreign lands, people and traditions, culture, education, generosity, luck, abundance, support, optimism. Insight through knowledge and wisdom.

symbols_saturn.jpg Saturn is on Sagittarius 9: A MOTHER LEADS HER SMALL CHILD STEP BY STEP UP THE STAIRS

This Symbol shows being able to lend a hand to those who need it, whether they are youngsters or not. It pictures situations where someone needs to assist those less able, experienced or indeed, less evolved, to overcome difficulties and to rise up and learn to cope, learn or understand. You may find yourself as either the experienced or the inexperienced or possibly finding the mother within you guiding your own inner child. It can also show someone caring for elderly relatives or friends. Whatever it is, one needs to have a sense of patience, caring and understanding. Lending a guiding hand to others is very important.

Keywords: The inner child. Guidance and acceptance of those not so "upwardly mobile". Training. Careful consideration of other's immaturity or failings. Staying with the family in order to bring up the children. Guardianship and stewardship. Reversals of roles. Supervising parents. Looking after the younger or the elder. Taking things one by one. Alzheimer's disease. Handicaps. Step-by-step progress.

The Caution: Future vision and hope obscured. Exhausted by constant parental obligation. Not getting, or giving, the help that one needs. Being bossy and judgmental, thereby missing the joy inherent in the moment. Lack of supervision or training. Refusing to grow up. Wanting to be looked after.

Saturn symbolizes: Authority, rules, discipline and obligation The heavy stuff. What we fear, loss, karma, aging, the establishment, orthodoxy, tradition, status, the concept of time, walls, boundaries, limits, older people, restrictions, patience, conquering difficulties.

symbols_uranus.jpg Uranus is on Aries 17: TWO PRIM SPINSTERS SITTING TOGETHER IN SILENCE

This Symbol shows that quiet withdrawal might be just what you need. However, it is easy to become isolated in conservative, albeit moral, ideas. You may find that there is only a select, restricted group with whom you wish to associate. There can be a quiet knowing that does not need a lot of words or emotional displays. Just be wary that this false sense of security doesn't isolate you from change and growth. Unresolved issues can lead to stunted emotional responses. Look for opportunities to open up to new possibilities.

Keywords: The need to loosen up emotional blockages. The struggle to hold onto one's original identity. Compromise because of social expectations. Meditations that communicate. Exclusive relationships. Relationships that have a quiet "knowing". Dignified silence. Inner withdrawal. Communicating through body language.

The Caution: Emotional isolation. Refusing to accept relationship. Pretending to be someone that one is not. Disapproval of younger, more vital energies. Being fussy and judgmental. Chattering that is not conducive to growth or true relating. Gossip. Difficulty in communicating. Being shut off, or shutdown. The loss of joy and spontaneity.

Uranus symbolizes: The unexpected, things that are individual or 'different'. Charged, energetic dynamics, electricity, light, lightning bolts, sudden changes, those who live on the fringe of society. Sudden turns and twists of fate. Rebellion, surprises, liberation, freedom.

symbols_neptune.jpg Neptune is on Pisces 8: A GIRL BLOWING A BUGLE

This shows sounding the call, rallying people together, knowing when to speak or “Blow a Bugle” to awaken others, to wake up to realities going on in the world, join some cause, etc. Perhaps you feel the need to wake up those around you, or, perhaps be woken yourself. When situations get bogged down in emotional or rational complexity and everyone just needs to be rallying and going for the objective, you may be the one to let everyone know. Sometimes this Symbol can show someone who makes a lot of noise; justified or unjustified and they can get people moving. Using simple, receptive innocence will get situations back on track.

Keywords: Sounding the call. Awakening all to action. Going on and on about something. Loudspeakers, telephones, announcements. Being prepared to state one's case. Calling attention to one's self. Blowing your own trumpet. Whistleblowers. Heralding and proclaiming the dawn. Rise and shine! Girls in a man's world. Leading the charge. Resurrection. Mass announcements. Advertising campaigns. Alarm clocks. Ear plugs. Blind folds. Break the fast. Proclamations.

The Caution: Making unwarranted and disturbing noise. Showing off. Unbalanced messages. Evangelists and politicians. Sounding the call but not making the grade. Being annoying. Trumpeting about one's achievements. Not listening to people.

Neptune symbolizes: Mystical, "out there," spirituality and con artists. Dreams, mysteries, mystics and religious issues. Intuition, clairvoyance, seeing into the invisible. Addictive, chaotic, charming, deceptive, illusory, co dependent, sensory awareness.

symbols_pluto.jpgPluto is on Capricorn 15: IN A HOSPITAL, THE CHILDREN'S WARD IS FILLED WITH TOYS

This Symbol shows the need to heal, calm, soothe and repair the lives of those who need your help, comfort and shelter. In times of healing there’s simple pleasures to raise the spirits, whether it’s of “Children” or people of any age. The “Toys” in the “Hospital” can be healing tools of any kind – it doesn’t matter what type or modality; if they bring relief and joy to someone’s life, they fill a need. There is also a need for caring shows of affectionate concern. Simple things done in times of healing can bring great relief to all. Sometimes it’s a smile, a special treat or soothing words of encouragement these are more healing than one can imagine.

Keywords: Bringing simple gifts to the sick or disadvantaged. Looking after one's responsibilities. Nurturing people of younger years or those who've had less growth. Workshops held to improve one's health; be it physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Drugs, crutches, cots, doctors, nurses. Waiting for and needing individual attention. Waiting rooms. Magazines. Toys. Gadgets. Puzzles. Games.

The Caution: Making a large generous show when one doesn't really care. Being dogmatic. Feeling in charge of healing and not listening to what others have to say. Using gadgets instead of simple human caring. Fear of things such as needles, etc. Being greedy and wanting all the toys.

Pluto symbolizes:Unconscious motivations, depth psychology, history. Sex, procreation at a deep level, intensity, profound emotions, taking hold of one's power. Being king or queen of one's underworld. Strength, survival mode instincts. Big money. Big power. The Plutocracy.

symbols_chiron.jpgChiron is on Pisces 18: IN A HUGE TENT A FAMOUS REVIVALIST CONDUCTS HIS MEETING WITH A SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE

This shows hearing or delivering important messages, decrees or rules for living, making sense of spiritual instruction, seeing who’s an authority worth listening to and who’s not. Seeing through false intentions or messages could be one of your objectives now. You may need to organize and stage a display to promote, teach or disseminate, bringing a feeling of community in a common goal. With the power to influence or sway groups of people, there needs to be a feeling of moderation and the ability to listen as well as speak. This can, however, picture situations of hysteria or overstating one's case. Is the audience listening? Is the cause just?

Keywords: Energy and inspiration. Evangelism. Whipped up emotions. Having a lot to say. Being instructional and dogmatic about how things should be. Being in charge. Ecstasy. Loud voices. Conversations that are said out loud. Acoustics affecting sounds. Preaching. Mind control. Performing. Political, religious and spiritual activism. Showmanship. Transformative experiences. Captivated audiences. The media circus.

The Caution: Using spiritualism for greedy financial gain. Overblown feelings of one's abilities. Big egos. Hysteria. People whipped-up and manipulated by those in charge. Having the agenda of controlling others. Feeling that one has all the answers. Getting het-up about ideals and beliefs. Manipulation and exploitation. Bigotry.

Chiron symbolizes: Our wounds and it is known as The Wounded Healer, it also shows The Stories That We Tell Ourselves, it is where we have to focus on healing, it can show things that are out of shape or misplaced or in need of repair.

symbols_north_node.jpgThe Moon's North Node is on Virgo 28: A BALDHEADED MAN IN UNIFORM WHO HAS SEIZED POWER

This Symbol shows a personality that “Seizes Power” and takes hold of situations. The fact that
he’s “Bald” implies someone with experience, perhaps older, someone willing and able to take a stand and take charge. This pictures times to seize power and push forward with decisions that need to be grounded. It is by force of will that solutions will be found, but one must be careful to temper situations as displays of masculine will can get out of hand very quickly. This degree sometimes needs to be handled with caution as it can mean having people in one’s life that bully, push and demand.

Keywords: Dominating other's mental space. Male hormones running rampant. Issues to do with hair. Ponytails. The story of Samson and his hair. Taking positions of power. Uniforms. Demanding others follow one's lead. Strutting one's stuff. "Wearing the pants in the family". The ability to direct and organize many people. Letting others express their opinions or have a say. Domination. The Government. The Military. Decisions based on logic. Taking action or control.

The Caution: Pushing too hard or fast. Ramming one's convictions. Being unkind and bossy. Putting on a show because one's in uniform. Power tripping. Being cruel and domineering. Lording it over others. Being opportunistic. Corruption. Misuse of power. Bullying. Big business calling the shots. Domestic violence. Taking charge because one can. Strict rules to live your life by. Taking over. Not listening to what others have to say.

The Moon's North Node symbolizes: This is known as quite a 'karmic point' (although all planets and points in a chart can be'karmic'). One's destiny in this life. The things you are meant to integrate, move towards, become. Destined relationships and relationship issues can show up here.

symbols_south_node.jpgThe Moon's South Node is on Pisces 28: A FERTILE GARDEN UNDER THE FULL MOON

This shows enjoying nature and the fruits of your life, your country, your culture. There's often a sense that one has all that's needed, and emotions can be running high. The “Fertile Garden” signifies that you have things that you need at your disposal. This Symbol has a strong clairvoyant sense to it, with the ability to pick up on subtle energies and life forms in the environment. You’ll get a lot of opportunities to enjoy the moment, but keep a sense of equilibrium, as soon the energy will be on the wane and you'll have to get back to more practical, everyday tasks.

Keywords: Fullness and fertility. Peak of energy and experiences. Brilliantly active unconscious life. Cycles. Waiting for the right time to approach or handle a situation. The effect of the moon. Astrology and predictive practices. The time for harvesting the rewards of hard work. Nature sprites. Vegetables, herbs and nature's bounty.

The Caution: Jealous protection of possessions. Not being able to make one's mind up because of the number of possibilities. Missed opportunities. Difficulty shutting down the mind. Emotions that get out of hand.

The Moon's South Node symbolizes: Past karmic patterns to be overcome, can be habits that are good, but can describe things, relationships, issues that you need to let go of, or, hold you back from manifesting your true destiny. Relationships that feel karmic and difficult, memories from the past.
