Occurring on January 30 in the United States and January 31 in Australia, the Aquarian new Moon is an interesting one that promises inspiration, change and a deeper understanding of ones' place in the world. This is another powerful lunation and many are bound to have powerful shifts of perspective which could lead to all kinds of transformations and breakthroughs.

The Sabian Symbol for the new Moon is Aquarius 11: During A Silent Hour, A Man Receives A New Inspiration Which May Change Their Life. The interpretations following are taken from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom:

This Symbol shows someone taking time out to contemplate, meditate, or just to be by themselves. He ‘Receives a New Inspiration’: he receives a thought, an idea or an ‘Inspiration’ that is the answer to a dilemma or provides clues of how to proceed with something. This ‘New Inspiration May Change His Life’, an aspect of his life may be ‘Changed’- he’s had some deep understanding and it is likely to turn his life around.

This Symbol shows the benefits of “getting away from it all” in order to reassess your life and goals. This ‘Silent Hour’ could be a short minute, a few hours, or a period of days, etc. What the Symbol shows is that a ‘New Inspiration’ will be received. Until now, you may have found that despite racking your brains there’s been no rational guidance available. It’s important to realize that there is often a lot of internal as well as external noise that needs to be quieted.

The rational mind can be noisy and tends to interfere with the flow of the imagination or intuition. You need to slow down and open up to the messages of your inner ‘Inspiration’. By reducing the external noise, clutter and distraction, it becomes possible for the mind to focus on what is essential, rather than what may just be convenient. This Symbol shows that there is an answer coming, and it will probably change many things, or at least change what most needs to be changed.

This can also imply the need for a shift of some kind, and this may have been forgotten, or neglected, because of preoccupations with social matters, or being too busy. Listen for clues: It may not be external voices that bring this ‘New Inspiration’ but the voices within. If there is difficulty blocking out the hustle and bustle of everyday life, meditation or delving into your dreams or fantasies may lead to the solution.

Keywords: Welling creative power. Inspiration = breathing in the spirit. Being driven to come to terms with one’s reality. Visionary people and events. Being reborn. Spiritual awakenings. Meditation and reflective thought. Inner intuitive awareness rising up into conscious awareness. Spending time alone, thinking. Contemplation. Reversals.

The Caution: Exclusion of others. Obsession with one’s self or objectives. Being a hermit. Hearing voices. Feeling trapped. Shooting off in all directions. Dropping things too quickly without resolution. Cutting off from life. Constantly changing directions. Regretting the past. Not moving on.

The Karmic Condition of this new Moon (the degree before) is a very interesting and meaningful degree. It is Aquarius 10: A Man Who Had For A Time Become The Embodiment Of An Ideal Is Made To Realize That As A Person He Is Not This Ideal. This Symbol can bring about realizations of who or what you truly are, although it can reflect on others with new perspectives on what or who others truly are.

This can be upsetting, illuminating, transforming, freeing and all kinds of issues can come up with this new insight. You may see yourself (or others) in a brand new light. This can bring joy or it can bring disappointment. It is interesting to note that this Symbol was the degree of the Moon's north node right through Obama's initial election as President of the US and through the time of his inauguration.

This Symbol can show the dawning of the understanding that one cannot always live up to one’s own expectations, let alone always living up to the expectations of others. The ‘Person’ involved in this issue may have been put on a pedestal, looked up to in some way and thought very highly of. On the other hand, he may have been putting on a false show to get some kind of response from others. Now there’s been a ‘Realization’ – something has happened and there’s an adjustment of beliefs, feelings, responses or expectations.

You may be looking at yourself, or someone else, and discovering that things are not as ‘Ideal’ as you once thought. The important thing to ‘Realize’, or remember, is that true depth of character and self-worth does not always equate with having the popular support of others. Also, we often project what we want to see onto both ourselves and others and this may not have much to do with the actual core of the real person.

Having said that, there can be immense disappointment and disillusionment when someone doesn’t live up to their promises or responsibilities. It’s important not to get disheartened by the ‘Realization’ that someone isn’t as perfect as was once thought; instead, consider ways to restore the situation. Staying true to one’s own ‘Ideals’ is the aim here.

On a more personal level, there can be periods of feeling worthless, unloved and falling into depression with feelings of failure and despair. However, there are often wonderful opportunities for self “disclosure” here. Read the signs and learn more about yourself as well as others. This Symbol can also show opportunities that are merely fleeting, like being idolized or famous for “five minutes” and then falling from grace.

Keywords: Staying true to oneself. Ideas that look great for a time, but lose their gloss. Lost opportunities. Waking up just in time. Depression. Self-esteem issues. Projections of personality. Not clearly seeing people. Realizing that people have changed. False expectations. Falling off the pedestal.

The Caution: Clinging to false feelings of fame. Not accepting that things have moved on or changed. Disillusionment and disappointment. Losing one’s faith. Religious questions and doubts. Aiming too high. Reversals of fortune. Idols and idolizing. Self pity. Giving up. Being slammed by others.

The Quest Degree (the degree following) this new Moon is Aquarius 12: People On A Vast Staircase, Graduated Upwards. This can speak of social climbing and wanting to advance upwards in life. It was a significant degree in the chart of the Titanic - and the Titanic featured a huge staircase which signified the different stratas of society in a very real and graphic way.

‘People On a Vast Staircase, Graduated Upwards’ is a Symbol of people standing or operating at different levels. As they are ‘Graduated Upwards’ some are higher up whilst some are lower down the ladder, or ‘Staircase’. The ‘People’ pictured here may be either looking up at those above, peering down at those below, or just observing their place in the scheme of things. The ‘Staircase’ in the movie “Titanic” is a good example of how this Symbol can operate, with those with wealth and power going off in one direction and those in a lesser position going in another.

You may be seeking to find your place in the scheme of things. Striving for the top is wonderful, and achieving your own successes is admirable, and the climb up will probably bring the rewards you need. Be careful not to concern yourself with thoughts of “who’s in front” or “who’s behind”. It’s probably of no real consequence. Concentrating on your own position and where you want to go will bring happiness and success.

No matter what you status, regardless of what others are doing, be patient and trust that you and yours are heading in the right direction. This Symbol doesn’t always involve outright competition, although it can. It can show the consequence of the layers of the class system, which can be rewarding to some, but alienating to others. Be careful of the “rungs” you are climbing, one that isn’t secure can have you in a risky or compromising situation.

Being at the bottom, or even at the top can lead to problems. It’s not useful to consider your present position unimportant, as being expendable is not a good thing. Accept your position as it is now, and work towards, and strive and look forward to a promotion in your place and the wisdom that is yet to come.

Keywords: Observing life from different levels. Social gradations and graduations. Working class to aristocracy. Orders from above, in any sense of the meaning. Waiting for one’s turn at the top. Politics. Big business. Multilevel marketing. Gradual upward climbs. Competitiveness. Stairs and ladders. Taking life step by step. Admiring success.

The Caution: Nervous worry about social position. Snobbery because of monetary, intellectual or social status. Can imply class, creed or racial prejudice. Climbing the ladder of success without care for those who are supplanted. Unsafe heights. Falling from grace. Denigrating or undermining others. Snakes and ladders. Rarefied atmospheres.

Uranus is on Aries 10: A Teacher Gives New Symbolic Forms To Traditional Images. Uranus is the ruler of this Aquarian new Moon and this Symbol, along with the one for the new Moon, seems to be suggesting that we take a look at the things we need to change. Change is surely in the air as is the breaking down of old paradigms.

Keywords: New dimensions breaking through old thought forms or behavior. Quantum science. Innovation and re-creation. Working with educational tools. Finding new inspiration. Being “ahead of one’s time”. New-age consciousness. Ideas out of the past for the future. Sticking one’s neck out. Rewriting the book.

The Caution: Rejecting old ideas because they are old instead of reforming them. Throwing things of worth out, without examining them. Having little respect for things that are really worthwhile or traditional. Sticking with the tried and true, no matter what. Thinking that no one will be interested in your ideas. How will you rewrite your book? How will you rewrite the story? What needs changing, modifying, revisioning?

Mercury is on Aquarius 30: Moonlit Fields That Were Once Babylon Are Now Blooming White.

Keywords: Rewards coming through from past generations. The feeling of ancestors surrounding one’s present deeds. Alchemy. Loss of ancient civilizations. Reverence for things from the past. The Middle East and all things middle-eastern. Belly-dancing. Rebirths of old civilizations. Grandeur. Seeds of the past becoming fruits of the present. Records. Fields that were once Avalon.

The Caution: Disbelieving because there are no rational structures or support. Destroying ancient lands or monuments because of religious beliefs or greed. The devastation and ruin of Iraq in order for the modern world to succeed. Projecting the sins of the world onto people or places that are foreign.

Venus is stationary direct (Venus was retrograde up until now, but is now just beginning to move forward again) on Capricorn 14: An Ancient Bas-Relief Carved In Granite Remains A Witness To A Long-Forgotten CultureVenus is conjunct (together with) Pluto and opposing Jupiter. This is a powerhouse t-square that brings an enormous amount of energy to Venus, especially as Venus is moving very very slowly now.

This is a rather archetypal degree for Venus to slow down and move forward on as it speaks of reviewing the past - both Venus retrograde and the Symbol speak of reviewing the past. With Pluto and Jupiter involved, there can be a need to rewrite the past, to rewrite your expectations of relationships and how you see yourself in relation to others. What is it about your history that you can hang on to and what can you let go of? The more you let go of the extraneous, the more Venus will reward you with what is more authentically what is meant to be in your life now.

Keywords: Anonymous immortality. Things written or carved in stone, or concrete. Permanent records. Clues from the past. Things that should be shaped and changed with the times. Pieces of art or sculpture. Things that belong in a museum. Inscriptions and carvings. Ancient civilizations and their relics.

The Caution: Limitations that don’t allow for changes. Old and outworn situations. Things carved in stone that cannot, or will not, ever change. Memories out of the past that keep one frozen in time. Feeling stuck, like no growth is possible. Frigidity of feelings because of things that have happened.

Mars is on Libra 22: Chanticleer's Voice Heralds The Rising Sun With Enthusiastic Tones. Mars here can show the need to raise your voice, make a noise and make your thoughts and feelings known, to make announcements, rally the troops and get going. It can also, especially as it is Mars, bring about anger or a feeling of tedium or boredom with those who are always making a noise or always sounding off or always going on and on about something to the point where you want to blow your stack. Both of these possibilities (and shades of grey in between) are possible.

Keywords: Anticipating new opportunities. Waking early. Being a morning person. Having a clear, beautiful or loud voice. Speaking up when it’s needed. Heralding the new age. Seeing things ahead of their time. Being attuned to cosmic forces. Change or renewal. Someone associated with new things. Always being on the go. Being eternally vigilant. Alarms that spur to action.

The Caution: Overstating ones role, talents or abilities. Needing a wake-up call (literally and symbolically). Crowing about things disturbing others. Being noisy when others are trying to sleep. Loud and irritating.

Jupiter is on Cancer 13: A Hand, Which Is Held Out Receptively, Is Remarkable For The Suggestion Of Character In Its Prominent Thumb. Jupiter is opposing Venus and Pluto, so there may be a need to be careful with your appetites, spending or reactions. Overdoing things could be in the air.

Keywords: Openness and willingness to extend oneself to others. The handshake and the need for it. Being approachable and friendly. Palmistry and palm reading. Having a firm will. Introductions. Strong characters. Flexible behavior.

The Caution: An aggressiveness and overbearing nature. Feeling that one is better, or stronger, than others. The smooth handshake that manipulates to impress one’s personality. Unbending and dominant behavior.

Saturn is on Scorpio 23: A Rabbit Metamorphosed Into A Nature Spirit. This Symbol can show a softening of one's nature, a letting down of one's guard, morphing into gentler, more adaptive ways of being.

Keywords: Revelation of hidden talents. Vegetarianism. Changing one’s lifestyle completely. Rapid and total transformation. Morphing. Giving up merely battling for survival. Ascension of consciousness. Elementals. Evolution. Moving into a new level of being. Raising one’s vibration.

The Caution: Being dissatisfied with transformation as not economically useful. Feeling ineffective or impotent, having one’s sexual power taken away. Feeling de-sexed or ‘neutered’. Losing one’s drive or libido. Feeling alone and misunderstood.

Neptune is on Pisces 5: A Church Bazaar. This Symbol can show being kind, charitable and giving all the way to giving yourself away without getting any reward and wondering why you keep doing it. Also, issues with The Church are likely to be in the media again.

Keywords: Overcoming loneliness and alienation. Selling things. The issue of real worth. Putting in a lot of effort for small rewards. Small scale commercial bartering and interchange. The collection plate. Generosity and charitable community attitudes. Jars of jam and things handmade. Bric-a-brac. Bargains. Practical spirituality. Volunteers. People sharing the load. Charity work. Money raising. Garage or yard sales. Second hand clothes.

The Caution: Spiritual or social exclusivity. Giving things smaller worth than they deserve. Using people. Deception on the grounds of faith. Fussing about small details. Fighting over “position”. Issues of territory. Pushy people. Social boundaries that exclude some.

Pluto is on Capricorn 13: A Fire-Worshipper Meditates On The Ultimate Realities Of Existence. Pluto, the great transformer and the agent of dredging things up from the past - and the depths - is conjunct (together with) Venus, which is on Capricorn 14. This conjunction lends a lot of weight to both planets and brings about the possibility, or the need, of totally reforming, reframing or reformatting our relationships, ways of being with others and with ourselves and can bring a total change in the way we view others, ourselves and our place in the larger scheme of things. With Pluto on this Symbol (and it is the Karmic Condition of Venus - the degree before), many are bound to be examining the meaning of life, the meaning of relating, the meaning of meaning perhaps :)

Keywords: Self-conquest. Kundalini energy. Playing with dangerous elements to reach a higher state of being. Philosophy. The stories of our lives. Examining life and its meaning. The buzz of being alive. Questions of our very existence. Finding the reasons behind everything. Contemplation and meditation. Incense. The hypnotic spell that fire can cast. Staring into the flames. Throwing oneself into the deep end. The search for core truths.

The Caution: Overestimation of personal power and abilities. Obsession to the point of self-obliteration. One-pointedness. Being intense. Going too deeply. Exhausting oneself trying to discover the meaning of life. Excluding family and friends because of philosophical or spiritual convictions. Not seeing the woods for the trees.

The Moon's north node is on Scorpio 3: Neighbours Help In A House-Raising Party In A Small Village.

Keywords: Cooperation. Real estate deals. Community concerns. Buying or building houses. Renting apartments and homes. Needing help to find shelter. The agreement of neighbors to maintain community harmony. “Raising the roof”. Parties. Dormitories. Having to consider lots of people. Match making. Community halls. Understanding what it takes to make a village of people. Communal governance or being blocked by rules, laws and regulations of bureaucracy.

The Caution: Taking advantage of generosity. Refusing to cooperate in group endeavors. Refusing help. Building bigger and better things. Bickering over who does what. Not trusting people’s input. No one lending a hand.

Chiron, the Wounded Healer and The Stories We Tell Ourselves, is onPisces 12: An Examination Of Initiates In The Sanctuary Of An Occult Brotherhood.

Keywords: The ordeal that comes to any initiate for entrance into higher realms of being. Hermits. Tests, examinations, having to prove oneself. Being judged or being judgmental. Being cross- examined. Rarefied atmospheres that demand personal sacrifice. Initiations. Proving courage and purity by passing tests and trials. The attainment of knowledge in a particular field. Apprenticeships. Being a candidate. Finding out how and where one fits in. One-eyed dedication. Trial by media.

The Caution: Refusing advice. Arrogance. People saying “I told you so”. People invading other’s private space. Hiding away because of fear or social ridicule. Severe trials and tests that strip the joy of life. People assuming they know the truth about others. Fear of failure. Not living up to other’s expectations. Narrow mindedness.

I feel I should mention Lilith - the devine, dark feminine energy that won't be suppressed and needs to be honored. Lilith is on Cancer 27: A Furious Storm In A Canyon Filled With Valuable Homes. This was the degree of the last full Moon - I get the sense that a lot of people are going to be feeling cheesed off, frustrated and just over having to put up with the crap that we're being dished up with.

It feels to me that it's time for a real revolution. How much longer are we going to smile and make nice when we really want to run around, scream and shout and tear our hair out ;)... time to connect with that part of ourselves that won't accept the suppression orders that society seems so keen on dishing out.
