We sat down for a chat with Eckhart one afternoon and asked him some questions.  In this issue, Eckhart reveals his thoughts on our relationship with between our ego and personality. Question: What is our relationship with our personality after awakening & does it change?

Eckhart Tolle > Ordinary Unconsciousness And Deep Unconsciousness

As you probably know, in sleep you constantly move between the phases of dreamless sleep and the dream state. Similarly, in wakefulness most people only shift between ordinary unconsciousness and deep unconsciousness.

Eckhart Tolle > Falling Below And Rising Above Thought

When you are very tired, you may become more peaceful, more relaxed, than in your usual state. This is because thinking is subsiding, and so you can’t remember your mind-made problematic self anymore.

Eckhart Tolle > Self-Healing Meditation

The more consciousness you bring into the body, the stronger the immune system, becomes. It is as if every cell awakens and rejoices. The body loves your attention.

Eckhart Tolle > Eckhart on Low Self-Esteem and Anxiety

The awareness that’s already present in the questioner needs to be there in the moment when these thoughts arise — to recognize them as thoughts — and then, you are no longer completely trapped in what these thoughts are saying.

Eckhart Tolle > Consciousness and the Unmanifested

When you dissolve psychological time through intense present-moment awareness, you become conscious of the Unmanifested both directly and indirectly. Directly, you feel it as the radiance and power of your conscious presence — no content, just presence.

Question: “My husband holds extremely different political views from mine.  He believes in war, guns, Fox News, and Sarah Palin.  I do not.  How do I constructively handle our differences?”

Eckhart Tolle > Eckhart on Evil

Question: If Being, or God, is the creative source of all energy and thoughts, and thoughts from the ego are a negative form of energy, don’t these negative thoughts originate from Being?  In other words, did God create evil?

Is awakening a gradual process or is there also a sudden, spontaneous shift?

Often people ask questions about manifesting and the power of intention, and how that relates to the power of Now.  One person asked me about the difference between the continuous wanting that I write about in A New Earth and intention - the intention to create something.  What is the importance of manifesting things in your life, or creating, or is that counter-productive?
